And ever did his Soul tempt him with evil, and whisper of terrible things. Yet did it not prevail against him, so great was the power of his love.

Suffer me now to tell thee (позволь мне теперь рассказать тебе; to suffer — страдать; позволять, дозволять) of the world's pain (о страданиях мира; pain — боль; страдание, огорчение, горе), and it may be that thou wilt hearken (и, может быть, это ты выслушаешь). For of a truth (по правде говоря), pain is the Lord of this world (страдание является Властителем этого мира), nor is there anyone who escapes from its net (и нет никого, кто может избежать его сетей; to escape — бежать /из заключения/; избежать /опасности/).
